PARIJAT: Empowering the socially deprived (An initiative by students)

“When i got sick, I found that life is not reliable so I vowed to make mine and other’s dreams true from that time” says Harmanpreet.  It’s an eternal dream for him and others involved in ‘PARIJAT YOUTH ORGANISATION’ to devote their lives to serve the nation by making poor and needy people self reliant. Like PARIJAT, a healing tree of flowers which has great medicinal values, this NGO comprising of  PANJAB UNIVERSITY students aims at advocating and healing social issues, racial discrimination, poverty, empowering the poor and needy by youth  renaissance utilising the potentials of the youth involved in various business, academic, community activities etc .The NGO aims at creating an opportunity for individuals and  groups to practise their skills to address the burning national and social issues which threaten to deprive the weaker sections of the society of all basic needs. Everyone who is involved with this NGO calls it as ‘MY NGO’ because it’s a cherished dream, an everlasting emotion for each of them and a very integral part of their existence. Feeling blessed to have studied in good schools they feel imperative to return the same back by providing quality living standards to the deprived .With great determination and a strong urge to endow the backward society into reckoning, these budding future torchbearers of the nation are filled with a ‘never say never attitude’ sharing a common motto to “LIVE FOR A SMILE”.

“YES WE HAVE THE GUTS TO FACE THE CHALLENGES AND SUCCEED.” It’s this burning emotion which drives them forward.

As a start the members of the NGO visited Jeevan Mukt Nishulk Vidyalaya (free school for needy and poor people) in a small village Jagatpura near Chandigarh .What a pity! They felt at the sight watching small students write on rough and partially used discarded papers. They were overcome with pain at their helplessness and with a vow in their heart to empower them with their basic needs they decided to give them every possible help. So they decided to distribute copies and pencils to the students. But who doesn’t face adversity in the face of need; they also had a task at persuading people and university students to help them with funds. Many of them backed out at the last moment.  Who can stop a noble cause, so with grit and will to watch smiles and feel joy on the faces of young students they decided to risk everything! They were short of funds but eventually there they were right at the school next day to fulfil their most cherished dream “SMILE and JOY” on the faces of the young poor students. It gave them a great peaceful pleasure having helped in realising the problems of the poor students. And WOW finally they had done it

IT WAS SO SIMPLE AND WHAT A COINCIDENCE THAT IT WAS ON April 22 2011 “EARTH DAY” WHEN THEY DECIDED TO TAKE THE FIRST STEP TOWARDS FIRST OF THEIR HUMBLE, NOBLE DREAMS.

What an inspiring success story envisioned by the NGO that it gives a very simple lesson that we the citizens of the nation can replicate the same over the country with a very less effort and a dream to feel the eternal joy of watching happiness, the holy wealth.
