India has always contributed its part to provide the world with better facilities and to make it a better place for all. Listed below are some of the biggest and greatest inventions by our Indian brother and sisters that changed the way the world looked at us. We use many of the inventions listed below in our life on daily basis. Well whatever it was, all inventions created landmark in the way people used to live their life.

On the occasion of our 63rd Republic Day as on 26 January 2012, we are very happy and proud to showcase these inventions which really are more than just simple inventions. 10 of the most notable inventions are:

10 of the biggest Inventions in India:

1.) Cotton Gin: Cotton Gin is a machine which is used to separate cotton from its seeds very quickly is an invention by Indians and Ajanta Caves of India speaks for its evidence.

2.) Button: The most important part of  clothing, is a small fastener that is used to hold two sides of a fabric securely. No doubt how much a button is used by average human daily. Button is yet another invention by Indians invented about 5000 years ago in Mohenjo-daro in the Indus Valley. That time buttons were generally made by using sea shell. Modern buttons are made from more convenient and cheap material called ‘Plastic’ .

3.) Steel: Indians invented yet another form of steel which was more strong and ductile which Europeans later called as Crucible Steel. Crucible Steel was invented in India in early 300 BC.

4.) Ink: Commonly known as India Ink is a simple black ink used for various purposes including writing, drawing etc is also one another gift by Indians to the world in late 4th century BC.

5.) Playing Cards: Playing cards also originated in Ancient India.Huh!

6.) Ruler: Ruler or more commonly known as Scale is a geometrical equipment used for measuring lengths and drawing straight lines was also first invented by Indians in about 1500 BC.

7.) Snakes and ladders: One of the most common and popular game in the world also originated in India some time ago. It was first introduced as ‘Game of Morality’ and then widespread in US and other parts of world.

8.) Zero (0): Zero is yet another one of the greatest invention by Indian mathematician Aryabhata. Imagine counting and numbers without zero.

9.) Yoga & Ayurveda: Yoga and Ayurveda was also first introduced by Indian Sants many many years ago. Till date,Yoga and Ayurveda both are very popular in India and World.

10.) Iron: Use of Iron in making various utensils and weapons was first done by Indians and the whole world knows it.Iron working started in early Vedic period and the skill was then adopted by the world.

So we Indians did helped the world in making it a better place.  That was quite a long list with such useful inventions that took the world by a storm and are still adopted and widely used. So spread the word and help all Indians to realise the same feeling on this Republic Day.

    Specifically the point to note is that there are quite few Indians living in India who are active in inventions and patenting. As an example, I live in Pune,India and have over 100 US patent applications with 12 granted and others in pipeline. Cheers to innovative thinking in india and across the world.

    THIS ISNT TRUE INDIA DIDNT CREATE THE COTTON GIN ELY WHITNEY CREATED THE COTTON GIN WOW WHAT A FAKE!!! jeez i mean this just isnt right to say that india created the cotton gin, some kid that might not know might put that in his school paper and get an F because he didnt know this wasnt true that india didnt really make the cotton gin and that ely whitney made it so please take it off your website if not for me for the children that would get an F because of you.
